At Edith Cowan University in Western Australia,a Graduate Certificate in Online
Teaching and Learning has been developed according to the guidelines of authentic activity described above.The aim of the program is to assist instructors to have the confidence to design and plan effective online learning environments themselves.The program consists of four courses:Online Teaching and Learning,Resources for Teaching and Learning Online,Designing Effective Online Learning Environments,and an Online Learning Project Unit.The design of the courses is characterized by strongly student-centered environments,with authentic and conceptualized learning tasks in collaborative settings,using integrated
assessment strategies and learning scaffolded by instructor support.The courses are designed to be delivered online and to embody a variety of online teaching and learning strategies.
