3. Results and discussions
3.1. Extraction kinetics
The characteristics of the bed and the particles were: particle average diameter of 3.9×10−4 m, true particles density of 1524 kg/m3, apparent bed density of 350 kg/m3 and porosity of the beds plus particles of 0.77. The humidity of the raw ginger was 85.5% (mass of water/mass of humid solid) and that of the dried ginger, 17%. Based on the results of Monteiro [20] as previously discussed, the extractions were carried out at pressures of 200 and 250 bars and temperatures of 25 and 35 °C. The amount of co-solvent was set equal to 1.17% (mass) of ethanol or isopropyl alcohol. The average solvent flow rate (CO2 plus co-solvent, Q) was 5.86×10−5 kg/s and the CO2 flow rate (QCO2) varied from 4.24×10−5 to 6.02×10−5 kg/s. Table 1 shows the operating conditions along with the kinetic parameters.
