Psychological problems such as anxiety and depression are the greatest threat to the health of Chinese people,said psychologists in north China's Tianjin Municipality.
Too much concern for material gain and fierce competition in the job market have contributed to the increasing anxiety and depression among the younger generation,said medical experts.
As for children,they are all doted upon by family members.
Their demands are invariably answered by parents or grandparents.This will make it difficult for them to accept rejection in the future.These children should not have unrealistic expectations from their parents.They are required to be top students and win contests and games at school.
To deal with the problem,many hospitals in China have opened psychological consultation centers.Some 30 percent of the Tianjin universities have set up such centers to help students.The Ministry of Education is planning to include psychological health as a subject in primary schooling programs.
Psychological illnesses may also cause physical problems such as high blood pressure,cancer,and coronary heart disease,said medical experts,adding that today more young people are diagnosed with tumors which may be linked to their unhealthy psychological conditions.
